Hi, i’m Stephan, the owner operator of Montgomery Board and Train. How this got started: I had been training dogs as a hobbyist for 29 years and training therapy dogs and working with various therapy dog groups for about 10 years back in 2016. I was visiting the Conroe Petco in Montgomery County and the manager was really impressed with my dog. I had Gretchen, my PTSD dog with me. He offered me a job as a trainer at Petco. As that’s what I spend a great deal of my time doing anyway, I accepted. So then I went through AKC’s 6-month long AKC Evaluator training course, offered through Petco. Dog training at Petco was relatively slow, so I decided to branch off on my own and started CustomK9 around 2017. I still own CustomK9.DOG. The focus of CustomK9 is on in home personal one-on-one training. I started this side of the business recently to address customers needs for people that need “Board and Train” services.

So I went through Petco’s extensive 6 month formal Dog Trainer’s training program. It was not long before I decided to branch out on my own. Since then, I have invested quite a deal of time into furthering my education on my own. I am currently teaching/training in the areas of Basic Obedience, Therapy dogs and PTSD dog in and around Montgomery County Texas (Montgomery and Lake Conroe area).

Certifications, I am a former American Kennel Club Evaluator, having done the testing of dogs for AKC titles in Montgomery County. I also have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology (UT/SHSU) which lends itself well to dog training.

I have six dogs, all of them are rescues. I have two Great Pyrenees, two Rhodesian Ridgeback/Black Mouth Cur mixes and two Dachshunds. So I am intimately familiar with working with all size dogs from Giant Breeds to medium breeds to small ones. Over time, I have been blessed to work with all manor of breeds with all manor of needs. Although, I am considered by some local vets in Montgomery County, Texas as a Great Pyrenees specialist of sorts.
